The Film Tag!

Sorry there was not blog post yesterday- Wednesdays have been really busy for me recently, and my sister and I had two episodes of Glee to watch! :)

Anyway, I decided a couple of days ago that I'd quite like to do a film tag- I've already done a book one which I really enjoyed writing, and as I've watched quite a few films recently I thought I should do a film version too :)

I eventually found the 30 days of film tag, but I didn't like some of the questions, so I've added a few of my own- mainly adapted from my book tag post!

1.      The best film you saw last year?

Well in terms of films that had just been released- I think The Kings Speech and Rise of the Planet of the Apes were both brilliant, though I did also see Tangled and The Dark Knight for the first time and I loved them too.

2.      Your favourite film of all time?

The Sound of Music :) I love it- the story and the characters and the songs- it's perfect! I think I probably know almost every word, and I kind of hate to think about how many times I've watched this film- it's 3 hours long so I must have spent a LOT of hours watching it. When I was about 14/15 I used to watch a film almost every Saturday afternoon (it was my lazy time, I saved all my homework for Sunday)- and it was almost always The Sound of Music or Grease!

3.      Your least favourite film?

There aren't too many films that I don't like- because I generally see trailers and get a good idea of the film before I bother watching it, but I really didn't like Lost in Translation- I thought it was dull and lacked any kind of plot.. I also hate the Pride and Prejudice film. I find Keira Knightly very irritating, so her casting was enough to put me off (along with a distinct lack of Colin Firth) but it was so short that SO much was missed out and edited, give me the original BBC series any day!

4.      A film that makes you happy?

I rewatch a lot of films, like books I enjoy revisiting films- it's like a cosy blanket :) So there are quite a lot of films that make me happy- especially musicals- there are so many musicals that you just cannot watch and be sad: my favourites are The King and I, The Sound of Music and The Phantom of the Opera.

5.      A film that makes you sad?

I'm the kind of person that cries at just about anything (happy tears too) so there are quite a lot of films that make me cry- including The Sound of Music! But to me the saddest films are Marley and Me (the book is also very sad) The Notebook and P.S. I Love You (again, the book is really sad- I read this in a shopping centre whilst waiting for someone and shamelessly cried my eyes out in public...)

6.      A film that reminds you of someone?

There are quite a few films that remind me of people because of who I first saw them with- but no films that specifically remind me of a person.

7.      The film you can quote best?

Aside from The Sound of Music (because the opportunity to quote that doesn't come up much) I think that has to be either Mean Girls or The Lord of the Rings :)

8.      Who is your favourite actor?

I really can't pick just one! I think Johnny Depp is possibly my favourite due to acting ability, though Colin Firth and Ewan McGregor are great (also, very attractive) and I could happily watch Ian McKellen, Alan Rickman, Hugo Weaving and in just about anything! :)

9.      Who is your favourite actress?

Again, I can't possibly just pick one- there are several actresses who I love in everything they do- including Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Helena Bonham Carter, Julie Andrews, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway. Emma Thompson and Judi Dench.

10.  A guilty pleasure?

Hmm... Cheesy rom/coms like 27 Dresses and Miss Congeniality, as well as Disney films that I'm probably too old to love as much as I do! Oh and classic 90's rom/coms like 10 Things I Hate About You and Clueless are great :)

11.  A film that you didn’t expect to like?

Again there are very few films I see without at least think I'd like to watch, I like to see trailers first- so I don't think there are any films I've seen that I didn't expect to like- maybe I should give some more films a chance!

12.  A film that disappointed you?

All 8 of the Harry Potter films- I wanted them to be good adaptations of the (awesome) books- but so much was missed out and changed, and the casting (in my opinion) was often terrible, with the exception of Alan Rickman, Imelda Staunton and Julie Walters- I went to the cinema to see the first one and was bitterly disappointed... Over time though I've learned to separate the books and the films in my head, so I can sort-of enjoy the films if I forget they are supposed to be book adaptations!

I was also quite disappointed by The Black Swan- though I think that's mostly down the quality of the ballet than anything else!

13.  A film you wish more people would watch?

I wish more people would appreciate musicals- I think they are often written off as boring/rubbish but I love them!

14.  What is your favourite genre of film?

Musicals! (surprise surprise!) Though I also really love Rom/Coms and SciFi :)

15.  Your favourite drama film?

I'm not really sure what qualifies as a drama film... I guess my favourite at the moment would be The Kings Speech but I think I'm probably missing some!

16.  Your favourite comedy film?

Monty Python films! I don't like a lot of modern comedy films like Anchorman, that kind of humour really isn't funny to me.

17.  Your favourite action film?

I think a lot of my favourite action films could also be considered SciFi so see below!

18.   Your favourite romantic film?

Love Actually :) I'm a sucker for rom/coms though, so I really love P.S. I Love You, The Notebook, One Day, Bridget Jones's Diary etc.

19.   Your favourite sci-fi/fantasy film?

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is AWESOME, I can't wait for The Hobbit, and the new Star Trek film is great. I also love Minority Report, The Matrix, X Men, Serenity and Planet of the Apes- and probably a LOT of others too... :)

20.   Your favourite horror film?

Not a fan of horror films- I scare WAY too easily, so even Shaun of the Dead which is supposed to be funny terrifies me!

21.   Your favourite thriller or mystery film?

Not sure I have one... Again it's not a genre I particularly like, though I suppose some other films I like could fit into the catagory too.

22.   Your favourite animated or children's film?

All things Disney Pixar! I particularly love Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo and Toy Story (all three!) and most Disney films too- Beauty and the Beast and

23.  Favourite book adaptation?

The Lord of the Rings is a brilliant adaptation- it manages to make the long-winded books into 3 great films without really losing of changing any major plot! :) I also really like The Lovely Bones. I think there is a Peter Jackson theme occuring here!

I also really like the Briget Jones films, they also manage to stay true to the original books :)

24.  Your favourite foreign language film?

Amelie (though there's very little compatition). I don't watch it as much as I'd like though, because I have to really concentrate and read the subtitles!

25.   Your favourite film as a child?

The Jungle Book and Bambi :)

26.  A film that you’ve seen more than 3 times?

Haha, there are SO many... The films I've probably seen the most times are The Sound of Music, Grease, Love Actually, Bridget Jones's Diary and The Lord of the Rings, but I know there are many more that I've seen much more than 3 times :)

27.   Who is your favourite director?

I think I managed to answer that in question 23- Peter Jackson is so good at making really accurate book adaptations :) I also really like Tim Burtons style.

28.  What is your favourite series?

I generally find that film sequels dissapoint me, with the exception of The Lord of the Rings, Toy Story and X Men.

29.  Most overrated film?

I watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button recently although it was good, I wasn't sure why it was so hyped... I think I'm probably missing some again!

30.  A film that you haven’t got around to watching yet?

Quite a few actually- there are a couple of new films that I really want to see, like The Iron Lady and The Avengers, and there are also quite a lot of older films that I've STILL not seen, like Inception and The Princess Bride

I'm not going to tag anyone in particular, I tag everyone reading! :) Let me know if you do it, I'd love to read it!
