Review: Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter!

I'm sure you're aware of these lovely new lip products from Revlon by now, there has been hype about them for aaaages! They made it into one of my wish list posts way back in January and they finally arrived in the UK at the beginning of March :)

I was rather restrained and only picked up one lip butter (I know I only posted about this lip balm in a haul on Thursday, but I've actually had it since last Tuesday so I feel able to post a full review now) because I wasn't entirely convinced I'd love them- it's so easy for such a hyped up product to not live up to expectations. I chose Strawberry Shortcake, but I did swatch almost every other shade in Boots (my hand was very pretty) so I can vouch for the fact that they all at least appear to demonstrate the same formula and pigmentation as the one I have :)

First of all, I really like the packaging- the tube is sturdy and closes firmly, plus the 'sleeve' colour matches the colour of the product inside, as well as having a clear top so you can actually see inside- very useful if you have more than one as they are easy to tell apart.

With a lip product there are three basic useful properties: moisturisation, pigmentation and lasting power.... and usually you can only get 1 or 2 in one product, losing out on the other (i.e. lip sticks are usually drying but well pigmented, lip balms are moisturising but no well-pigmented, and glosses are sticky and short lasting!)

But the lip butter manages to get the best of all of those things, the pigmentation is good- I suppose it's not quite up to a lipstick standard, but very good when you consider how moisturising it feels. The swatch below shows a couple of swipes on my hand, so you can either wear it as a sheer wash of colour (which I think would work particularly well with the darker shades in the range) or build it up in a couple of layers to create a lipstick-like coverage. This one works quite well as it's sheer enough for me to not need a mirror to apply.

Strawberry Shortcake is about in the middle of the range colour wise- there are quite a lot of darker and brighter shades, as well as a couple of nude/pale colours. It's a cool toned pink- typical for me! (I'm either unadventurous or I know what suits me and I stick to it...) I love this shade and I have to say I'm sorely tempted to pick up more... Lets see if that spending ban holds!

It has a similar texture to my L'Occitane lip balm- quite thick (almost waxy) and creamy, but not heavy or sticky- and it really does feel like it is moisturising my lips. I wore and took only this lip product to the wedding I went to last weekend and I didn't miss having a separate lip balm at all; which is saying quite a lot for me as I usually have super dry lips, and will not part from my Carmex under any circumstances! (you can tear it from my cold dead hands!)

It stays on my lips fairly well- probably a couple of hours without eating or drinking, although it does tend to fade oddly (though this could well be because I was eating and drinking a lot when wearing it) I also smells really good- quite sweet, though I can't place the scent (maybe vanilla?)

Having said how much I love it, do I think it's worth the (£7.99) price?

I'm somewhat surprised to hear myself saying: Yes! OK so £8 IS a lot for a lip product (for me anyway) and I was a little dubious that it would be worth it, but it works so well as both a lip balm and a tinted lip product that I definitely recommend them, especially for people like me who has dry lips and sometimes find it hard to wear lipstick as they are just too drying (even the good ones!)

They're included in the Boots 3 for 2 offer at the moment, so now is a great time to purchase one, and there are plenty of testers so I really recommend trying one out! :)

Have you tried a lip butter yet? What's your favourite shade?

  2. I have this exact one. I like it, its nothing special, but since I found out recently that its almost a dupe for NARS Roman Holiday lipstick, which I'm in love with right now, I've started to like it a bit more. I'm not completely convinced they are the same colour, but the lip butter is very pretty, and I like that its moisturizing!
