Review: Boots fruit essence shampoo (moisture repair and goodbye dry ends)

As I mentioned in my what's in my shower post, I've been using my Boots fruit essence shampoos for a while now- I finished the moisture repair one, and I'm nearly done with 'goodbye dry ends'. I got them way back in June (yes, it took me quite a while to get around to using them) from Boots when they were on a two for £1.50 offer. They are priced at just 99p for 400ml, which is super-cheap (especially when compared to Herbal Essences- which Boots are clearly trying to copy- which is £3.49 for 400ml)

I'm a big fan of Herbal Essences shampoos, they really work well for my hair, so when I saw these cheaper alternatives I thought I'd better give them a try- and I'm pleased to say that they measure up rather well.

Moisture Repair, and Goodbye Dry Ends Shampoo.
First of all they smell really good- particularly the goodbye dry ends one; they are lovely and fruity when lathered up in the shower. The scent doesn't linger much on the hair (unless you really sniff it) which is good because it doesn't interfere with any perfumes or scents you wish to wear.

The formula doesn't contain any silicones so they are great for my hair- which is very fine and gets greasy and flat very easily- and there doesn't seem to be much product build up with these shampoos, and although I usually rotate through shampoos a lot, I don't need to do that too much with these. I also find that I don't need much to coat my hair in lather- which means a bottle lasts quite a long time :)

However I don't think they are as moisturising as they could be (and as they advertise to be- with names like moisture repair, and goodbye dry ends you'd expect very moisturising formulas) after using them my hair definitely wasn't dry- but my hair did benefit from my loreal straightening spray to smooth out the ends, which were sometimes a bit on the fluffy side after using these shampoos. Having said that, I'd much rather have a less moisturising shampoo that manages to leave my fine hair feeling clean and light, even if I do have to add a little extra moisture afterwards.

Overall I think these are really great shampoos- they're not really anything particularly special; but they do the job of cleaning my hair very well, and not weighing it down with residue. Plus they have a very tiny price tag! I definitely think these are worth a try, there is quite a range of scents and formulas for different hair types to choose from and they have conditioners to match each one- at 99p I think you'd be silly not to at least try one out!

What's your favorite shampoo?

  2. Thanks, I'm glad you liked it :) Definitely! They're worth a try. I don't think I've ever tried an Aussie shampoo but their conditioners are awesome!

  3. I saw these in boots the other day after you mentioned them but I was restrained and waited for your review. Think I'll skip the shampoo but try out the conditioner :) I like Aussie shampoo as well but generally I use a Lush shampoo bar.

  4. Oh I'm so sorry it took so long! How are the shampoo bars? I've always been rather confused by them!
