Book Haul!

I love reading (you may have noticed if you saw my book tag) but buying new books is always so expensive. Thankfully there are many charity shops that have great book sections near me, and today I raided several of them to spend some of my Christmas money. I was kind of hoping to find some lovely cooking books (unwanted Christmas gifts always seem to end up in charity shops!), but I found lots of other reading books instead- my bags were very heavy on the way home!

First of all is a beauty book, it's described as an 'indespensible guide to the best beauty products on the market' I think it may turn out to be slightly outdated (it was published in 2004) in terms of the products it mentions, but I've flicked through it and it seems like a good read- full of good tips and information; well worth £2.99 from Oxfam :)

Next is a book by Lauren Weisberger- the author that wrote The Devil Wears Prada. I loved her writing style in The Devil Wears Prada (which is quite similar to the film, if you liked the film you'll love the book!) so I'm sure I'll like this one too- I'm quite excited to read this actually :) Another £2.99 from Oxfam (they have a seriously good book section)

An author I absolutely love is Cecilia Ahern, I first heard of her when the film adaptation of PS, I Love You came out, I read the book soon after and wept like a child in the middle of a shopping centre (I was waiting for someone) and I've since read a couple of her other books, so I know I'll love this one without knowing anything about it. This is supposed to be a Christmas story, but that wont stop me reading it sometime very soon. Also, how cute is the cover? I got this one at a Red Cross shop for £2 and I don't think it's ever been read, the book is in immaculate condition!

I fell in love with Marian Keyes when I was travelling in 2009, there were quite a few of her books in the backpackers libraries I visited, and because they are so easy to read- and hilarious- they made perfect beach reading so I think I read about three of her books, today I picked up one I haven't read- Anybody Out There? This one was a bargain at 95p from a local charity shop :)

I saw the film version of One Day recently and I loved it (I also cried like a baby) and I'd definitely recommend the film, but I've been reliably informed that the book is even better, so when I saw this for 99p I couldn't not buy it. I think this is first on my 'to read' list, because I know how good the story is already I can't wait to read it! I really like the cover of this book, the silhouettes separated by the wonky title- it's very unusual.

So that's my little haul for today. I was also on the lookout for The Hunger Games (Amy desperately wants to read them and so do I) but I think I'll have to look online for those- there are a couple of charity sellers on Amazon that I like using for books :)

Now I just have to find space for all these books, I swear almost all the storage space in my bedroom is make up, nail polish and books! :)

Have you picked up any new books recently? Any recommendations for me? (As if I need more books...)

  1. One Day is a lovely book, you'll love it if you enjoyed the film (which made me cry like a baby too)

I've been on the lookout for the Hunger Games books too, I had never even heard of them before China Glaze announced the nail polish collection and now I'm desperate to read them.
