Review: Carmex moisturising lip balm.

This is the first in a series of lip balm review posts, following my collection post. I thought I'd start with Carmex as I've been using it a lot recently, and now it's getting colder I know I'll be relying on it a lot.

Carmex Original and Cherry

I have the Original and Cherry varieties, which both retail for £2.69 for 7.6g (at Boots -currently 3 for 2- and other stores) This might seem quite expensive (that's a lot of money per gram of product!) but you really need very little to cover your lips, so one pot lasts a very long time. I've had my cherry one for at least 6 months of frequent use and I've probably only used about 1/4 of the pot.

I think the formula are the same, though the original has a menthol, medicated scent which some people might not like (I personally love it, but then I also enjoy the smell of dentists and petrol so...) The cherry one smells like cherry (oddly enough) and marzipan, with a slight mentholy edge. I love both scents, and I'd like to try the mint tube version one too :)

I find these really moisturising, Carmex advertises the fact that it 'soothes... relieves... moisturises' and it really does. It's great for chapped lips (my mum also used to swear by it for cold sores too) and I use it whenever my lips are feeling really dry, and when the weather is horrible and my skin can't take the windy cold air.

Unlike a lot of balms which tend to sit on my lips, Carmex sinks in immediately so it doesn't feel greasy or glossy, making it perfect for use underneath other lip products- and great for windy days when your lips need protecting from the elements without the risk of your hair sticking to your lip balm!

Lip balms are probably the one item I really care about the packaging for- I carry a lip balm around with me all the time (if not 3 different types...) and whilst I don't mind if it's not particularly pretty, it definitely has to be practical. Carmex pots are very good- nice and small with a twist off top. I like the yellow colour too- very cheery :)

I absolutely love these lip balms, they really do provide deep moisturisation and are great for people with dry skin like me. I think this is probably my all time favorite lip product- and if you only have one lip balm, it should be this one!

What's your favorite lip balm?

  1. I love carmex, too! I also love burt's bees (original, honey) and welleda (everon). You have to try welleda if you haven't. You will love it. :)

    1. Somehow I've never tried a Burts bees lip balm- I think I might need to! :) Never heard of welleda though, I'm not sure I can get it in the UK.

So far I have tried 3 burts bees lip balms original ( in my opinion is similar to carmex), honey (really nice)and the one with pomegranate oil I didn't like.

As you can see I'm a huge lip balm junkie. :D
